Islomkhon Gafarov

Islomkhon Gafarov is a Policy Analyst at the Center for Progressive Reforms and a Senior Lecturer at the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED). He is specializing in Central and South Asia, as well as the study of Afghanistan. In 2024, he successfully defended his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Political Science. Earlier, he obtained a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and a master’s degree in Applied Political Science from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (UWED). In addition, he studied at a specialized school of the University of Warwick (United Kingdom), which enabled him to combine both national and international academic experience. Before that, he headed the Center for Afghanistan and South Asian Studies at the Institute for Advanced International Studies.


Islomkhon Gafarov’s scholarly work is distinguished by its productivity and depth: he is the author of six monographs and more than forty academic articles and theses, published in leading domestic and international journals.
